5 tips for a relaxed newborn session

This is one of my favorite newborn sessions to date and I will tell you 5 reasons why I love it.
1. Mom wore a white simple maxi dress that does not distract from the beautiful baby. She looks amazing, ethereal and can move and bend easy with baby.
2. There are no posed shots. I do not pose any of my newborn babies….its simply not my style and takes a LONG time. Everyone with more than one baby knows a toddler does not have time to wait for hours for the perfect shot. I prefer to shoot my sessions within one hour and capture true interactions with the new family member.
3. We slipped outside for a few ” formal” images. I know everyone wants a good family picture when baby is born but sometimes that is easier said than done especially with multiple siblings. For this shoot we just went outside for literally 10 minutes and captured a few beautiful family images that I think are lovely. Again mom’s styling of simple neutral outfits made these EXTRA beautiful. Her dress is from forever 21 in case your wondering!!!!
4.The focus was on baby Otto in is natural environment. He was happy to be wrapped up nice and tight in his own room and I was able to capture his sweet tiny details that will change in a matter of weeks. I love to capture that shedding newborn skin…. it so precious to me. His nursery was really light and bright and decorated so sweetly!!
5. We planned the shoot in the morning when the light was the best for an in home session. Nobody had anywhere to go before or after the shoot which makes for an easy relaxed session. If your planning your newborn session make sure that is the only thing you have going on that day. I know pictures can stressful for some so having a low key day at home is sometimes best.

Welcome!

My name is Janna and I currently live in Saskatoon, Sask. I have an in home studio space that I use for shooting newborns, milestones and motherhood sessions.

All in all, I am surviving on coffee and very little sleep but I am happy. I have the privilege to work with absolutely wonderful families who trust me to hold their little bitty babies and honour me with the creation of their memories.  I do feel truly blessed. I would love to meet you and maybe learn a little bit about you and your family!
