Studio Motherhood Session

A few weeks ago I collaborated with my friends Jackelyn and Meredith on this motherhood makeover session and today I am sharing the results. My focus on motherhood in my photography work has increased steadily over the past few years. My first born is now 8 years old I have very few pictures of him and I together…. well all of my kids really.  As mothers we are often the last one to take care of our own needs and that has left many of us not feeling “camera ready”. There are many many days when the ability to take a shower and do my hair is an absolute luxury…. whoever invented dry shampoo  HAD to be a mom!!!  Showering the tip of the iceberg as to why I am not wanting to be in pictures.  I never lost the baby weight from my first born 8 years ago. I have not worn “nice clothes” in what seems that long ago either. I have no nice clothes ……. yoga pants and a mom sweatshirt have come to be my uniform.  I could go on and one and I know I am not alone. Jackelyn and I  have seven kids between us both and have talked at length about how much we want to be present for our kids but we have let too much trivial stuff get in the way of making this happen. We decided together to help other moms NOT allow what happened to us happen to them and we collaborate a few times a year to create beautiful portraits of mothers and their children. I have a growing studio wardrobe collection that clients can use for their sessions.  I have stocked my closet full of pretty light and airy pieces that create a flattering and timeless look. My goal is to create simple, connected portraits for mothers and their children and I never want clothing to get in the way of that. The day of the motherhood events Jackelyn  is on location doing make-up for all moms. We hire a babysitter to help with your little ones while you are being pampered. We are planning our next event in Regina for July 28th and hoping to do one more studio event in Saskatoon before the end of 2019. Stay tuned to our social media pages for release dates.

This is my new friend Meredith. After following her on social media for some time Jackelyn reached out and invited her for a motherhood session with us. Meredith is a beautiful mother of four that recently went through major heart surgery, you can read her journey with a congenital heart defect HERE. When I first read her story I was so emotional as she has been through so much with her health. Since she has been through so much in the first few months of her daughters life we though she would really love for us to create some memories for the, . Such a special mother/daughter duo these two are  they really deserved this!!  Meredith and I have come to know each other more since the session and she is so bright, energetic and full of life it blows my mind she was in the hospital shortly before Christmas.  During our session Meredith said she wanted a picture of her scar and I just loved that ideas. As mothers our bodies have really been through so much and  I am glad we are living in a day and age that is embracing motherhood with such acceptance and openness. Please have a scroll through and leave a comment below it would be so appreciated!!

Welcome!

My name is Janna and I currently live in Saskatoon, Sask. I have an in home studio space that I use for shooting newborns, milestones and motherhood sessions.

All in all, I am surviving on coffee and very little sleep but I am happy. I have the privilege to work with absolutely wonderful families who trust me to hold their little bitty babies and honour me with the creation of their memories.  I do feel truly blessed. I would love to meet you and maybe learn a little bit about you and your family!
