When Is The Best Time To Get Newborn Photos Taken?

Saskatoon Newborn Photographer

I am the mom of three children and I remember the days of having a newborn like it was yesterday… yet it is all a blur at the same time. Every child of mine was different and the recovery was just a bit different after 3 sections. I put a poll out on my IG stories yesterday asking when other moms started to feel somewhat human again after having baby and the responses varied but most said after 3 months. When I say human again I mean like you have the energy and courage to leave the house all dressed and ready to go out with baby for a couple of errands. I remember never knowing quite sure how long my baby was going to last out in public before needing to eat and then I would break out into a huge sweat because I found feeding so very hard. Moral of the story it takes a long time to adjust to being a mother of a newborn and I totally understand the process. There has been a trend in the newborn industry to get newborn photos taken within 14 days of baby being born. When I hear this I start to sweat and get anxious ….I followed this rule myself for years. Here is the thing, a baby is considered a newborn from birth to 28 days. There is absolutely no need to rush and get newborn pictures taken right away if you as a mother are not feeling up for it just yet. I have started to offer my client a ” SPLIT Newborn” session. Come in to the studio with just baby as soon as you are feeling like you can handle leaving the house for about 2 hours. Let me take the simple shots of baby just as he/she is. Let’s document the newborn stage in a simple timeless manner. After about 12 weeks come in with all family member and let’s do a mini family session to document the new family unit. Let’s just not make its stressful and if you are feeling overwhelmed, tired, and simply not ready that is OK. My goal is to document your motherhood journey and growing family and there is no need to rush that.

Welcome!

My name is Janna and I currently live in Saskatoon, Sask. I have an in home studio space that I use for shooting newborns, milestones and motherhood sessions.

All in all, I am surviving on coffee and very little sleep but I am happy. I have the privilege to work with absolutely wonderful families who trust me to hold their little bitty babies and honour me with the creation of their memories.  I do feel truly blessed. I would love to meet you and maybe learn a little bit about you and your family!
